Heads up Sunday Morning

Gallery, please note the following:

Note: the Twin Cities Marathon will be running along Summit Ave. Sunday morning so crossing Summit Ave. between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM will be very hard. Alternate routes up to the Obama school from south of Summit: 

• use 35E north to 94 west to Dale Ave. south
• or use 35E north to Ayd Mill Rd. north to Selby east 

Also, 18 Obama teachers have put aside tasks for us to help out with on Sunday morning for our Be-the-Church-Day, AND Principal Pendelton will be joing us! Please make this Sunday a priority. Let's put a smile on the principal's face :-)

Is it possible God loves to see us help another as much as He loves to hear our songs?
(see Amos 5:23-24)
Is it possible to meet God in the classroom of a public school on a Sunday morning rather than in a church service?
(see Matthew 25:40)
Is it possible we cannot grow in our personal faith until we take on the attitude of a servant?
(see Philippians 2:5-8) 

As i hope you know, this Sunday morning we will not gather for a typical worship service at Steppinstone Theatre. Instead we will gather for worship at the Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning Elementary School. Instead of worshiping God with our voices, we will worship God with our hands as we move through the school putting up bulletin boards, organizing books, cutting out shapes, weeding the garden. Instead of going to church, we will be the church for a school overwhelmed with the needs of its students.

Will we make any sort of a difference in the world through our effort? Yes. On Monday morning teachers from the Obama school will come to work and note there was a church there the day before who care about their school and the students they serve. 

I hope you'll join us Sunday morning. Please arrive at 9:30 AM if possible.
Please bring the following:

• A dish to share for the potluck.
• Work gloves might be helpful.
• A laptop might help in the organizing of books (if you have one).
• A servant's heart.

The potluck will begin at noon and there we will also launch our Fall Meal Groups!

Living God's Masterpiece at Masterpiece Sunday (this Sunday!)

MASTERPIECE SUNDAY--this Sunday!
Every month during the school year, The Gallery creates a special Sunday morning service highlighting the creative gifts God has given us. These are great bring-a-friend Sundays! Our first Masterpiece Sunday will take place this Sunday, Sept. 25th. Breakfast pastries will be provided. Pastor Brad will be performing a special drama to accompany special guest speaker Pastor Jim Olson.

 

BE-THE-CHURCH-SUNDAY, Oct. 2nd
Too often people think the “church” is a building or a Sunday morning worship service. Actually, the Church is a people called by Jesus to fulfill His mission in the world. Our first Be-the-Church-Sunday will be Sunday, Oct. 2 at 10:00 AM at the Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning School where we will gather to help the school in numerous needed tasks on campus. A potluck will be held at the school after we’re done (bring a dish to share) and we will launch our Fall Meal Groups!

 

BECOME A GALLERY MISSION PARTNER
At The Gallery a Mission Partner (we don’t love the word “member”) is any person who calls The Gallery home, believes in its mission, and wants to serve the mission with their time, gifts, and talents. Mission Partners have voting rights at The Gallery and approve Leadership Teams, the annual budget, and full-time pastoral hires. Everyone wanting to become a Mission Partner must attend one of the following Mission Partner classes (food will be served :-)

• Sunday, September 25 (5:30-8:30 PM) at Bethel Christian Fellowship
• Saturday, October 29 (8:30-11:30 AM) at the Northwest Conference Office 
• Tuesday, November 15 (6:00-9:00 PM) at Golden Thyme Coffee 
• December 4th (5:30–8:30 PM) at Bethel Christian Fellowship

If you are new to The Gallery and wondering what The Gallery DNA is, please join Pastor Brad after church this Sunday, Sept. 18th for Pizza with the Pastor. We will gather at Axel’s Bonfire Grill on the corner of Grand & Victoria. Lunch is on us!

 

CONNECT WITH A MEAL GROUP THIS FALL
Looking for a way to connect with God and others this fall at The Gallery? Join a Meal Group! Meal Groups are 8-12 people who gather on a regular basis to eat, learn, serve, and pray together. This fall MG’s will be very diverse in their topics of study--men’s issues, women’s issues, the Holy Spirit, Bible studies, etc. Registration begins in one week.

• NOTE: If you are interested in leading a Meal Group at The Gallery this fall, Pastor Brad would love to sit over coffee and discuss! He can be reached at bradkindall@gallerycovenant.org.

Therefore, we have scheduled 5 Be-the-Church-Sundays this year where instead of a typical worship service, we will gather to worship through serving. Our first Be-the-Church-Sunday will be Sunday, Oct. 2 at 10:00 AM at the Barack and Michelle Obama Service Learning School where we will gather to help the school in numerous needed tasks on campus. A potluck will be held at the school after we’re done, so bring a dish to share.

Want to make a difference in a child’s life this fall? Children’s Pastor, Suzanne Elliott, would love to have you join her for lunch at Cafe Latte after church this Sunday to discover how you might join her and her team in children’s ministry at The Gallery.

 

SUNDAY EVENING--EVERYDAY HEROES
Join The Gallery Sunday at 6:00 PM, September 11th at Central High School (94 and Hamline) as we, along with 5 other St. Paul churches, honor the everyday heroes of our community--teachers, firefighters, police, civil servants, all to commemorate this important tenth anniversary of 9-11.

NOTE: If you can help with setup for the service, please meet at the auditorium of Central High School at 4:30 PM this Sunday afternoon. Help with take-down will be greatly appreciated as well. 

 

PIZZA WITH THE PASTOR
